Shot Execution Under Pressure

"I knew I was going to duff that before I even swung."

You probably know someone like this. You might be someone like this.

Standing over a shot that actually matters, I sometimes know how it's going to go before I've taken the club back. Not in a useful, visualising-success way. In a this-is-going-in-the-water way. And more often than I'd like to admit, it does, because I've half committed to the miss before I've committed to the shot.

It's not that I can't hit the shot. On the range, on a Tuesday, with nothing riding on it, I hit it fine. Put a bit of pressure on it, a shot to save par, a tee shot with trouble either side, and the routine I trust everywhere else goes out the window, replaced by a swing that's flinching from a result it's already decided on.

I'm not lacking ability. I'm just letting the outcome arrive in my head before the ball's left the club, and that changes the swing I actually make.

I predict the miss, then help it happen. I spot pressure moments and brace for the worst before I've hit the shot, my routine falls apart exactly when I need it most, and swinging freely when it counts is the hardest part of my game.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth finding out how far it actually runs. The free assessment covers this alongside seven other areas that shape a round, and takes about eight minutes.
